London Design Festival September 2011

About London for London deign festival
It was a great time to be about London In septemebr there were so many things going on all over the city, I was lucky enough to visit a few of these things. Orgin at old spitalfields market http://www.originuk.org/ the contemporary craft fair. The work on sale was fantastic I particularly
enjoyed seeing the work by Maya.http://www.mayaselway.com/Jewellery.aspx

I also went to have a look around Tent London a design trade show at the Old Truman Brewery on Bricklane were they had Fantastic work  from national and international designer makers, then onto the Dezeen pop up shop http://www.dezeen.com/ and to the V&A before having to get the train back to wales again.

The Jewellery quater Birmingham

Last Friday I took the 2nd year Jewellery Students from where I am a jewellery technician/Demonstrator at North Wales School of Art and Design  ttp://www.nwsad.co.uk/ to the jewellery Quarter in Birmingham. I have visited the jewellery quarter on a few occasions but hadn't been to the jewellery museum. It was like an Aldan's cave. It had been left pretty much how the owners had left it over 50 years ago. Everything from the tools, machines and the the torches are still in full working order. They do daily tours of the museum where a guide takes you around and talks you though the history of smith and pepper ltd . Well worth a visit.

After been wowed by the museum we went along to the jewellery tool shops. I always think its great to actually see and get the feel of tools before you buy them so this was a good opportunity to do just that.
